About Temple of Liberty
Stewardship over spectacle—leadership, civil–mil health, and public trust.
Temple of Liberty is a home for slow, principled essays about how free people keep a republic. I write about civic character and constitutional conscience—what it means to lead with integrity, serve with humility, and live as citizens in an age of noise, grievance, and drift.
The name comes from Jefferson’s phrase—the “temple of liberty”—a reminder that the American experiment is not self-sustaining. It must be maintained: through thought, action, and the example of those willing to stand up when it matters.

What this is not
This is not a partisan newsletter or a campaign platform. It’s a place for thoughtful Americans—veterans, public servants, teachers, neighbors—who believe the Republic is worth preserving.
Who I am
I’m Dr. Gary J. Sampson, LtCol, USMC (Ret.), now writing as a citizen after nearly three decades in uniform and a Ph.D. at Tufts (Fletcher). My lane is leadership, civil–military relations, and the quiet work of keeping public trust.
